A/C Compressor Replacment 2008 V70
I'm looking to purchase a 2008 V70 with 125k on the clock. When test driving I noticed a clanking sound from the engine. Closer examination revealed it to be the clutch on the A/C compressor. If I purchase the vehicle, this will need to be replaced. I own several 70 series and have replaced the A/C compressor on a '99. Of course this is a whole new engine from the 2.4 inline 5 (yeah no more timing belts) but one I have no idea about. The A/C compressor is topside on this engine vs. its predecessors which were located bottom side. This engine appears to be crammed in its space with even less room to work than the 2.4. Question is has anyone done this, and how difficult is it to R and R the serpentine belt?

Easy one. The belt tensioner has the curved nub that you put an open end wrench (19mm) on and push down to relieve tension and then stick a drill bit or hex key into the hole to keep it loose. The shape of that nub only allows wrench to grab in the right direction...clever. Pictures show the two features. The compressor can then have its three bolts removed and lift it a smidge to clear dowels and slide back end up and the pulley comes out of loose belt. If you opt to do the belt then the idle in compressor bracket is accessible now and has to have its one bolt removed so the belt will come off. Then the p/s pump will have to be removed so the belt comes off back there.
