V70 manual transmission overfilled gear oil.

Post by yeahyeah »

Went to do an oil change and noticed oil leaking from the drivers side output shaft on the gearbox. Thought I would check the gear oil level because I wouldn’t want to run low while I wait for a new seal. When I opened the fill plug mass amounts of oil poured out. I think some jiffy lube hack may have done this for the previous owner.

Just want to confirm my thought that the overfilling probably caused the failed seal, and there is nowhere else this could have come from? Any issues I should be looking for? Any extra problems I might encounter changing that seal?

Thanks

Im trying to remember how close the fill hole is to the axle hole on the M56 - I do have some pictures in the P2 Forum when I did my 2005. I thought it was a couple of cm below.

Overfill would be the best guess, agreed.
