2005 S40- Replacing A:C Heater-Blower Motor Fan

Post by Toollife »

Hello Friends;

Can someone, please give me super easy instructions on how to replace the A/C Blower Motor Fan on my 2005 S40 Volvo- Automatic, 4 Door Sedan (maybe even pictures, if you have).

I live in Michigan and I’m freezing. The heater stopped working a while ago, defroster, and my A/C doesn’t work. Other than that the car works Great. No smells inside of car of fumes from engine, etc.

I found the Blower Motor Fan on several websites to replace mine.

I do no have a lot of money to spend, so I’m not buying the original Volvo fan.

I found an original Volvo fan onEBay, but it’s used for under $80. However, 1 month Warranty, and I can return it.

Otherwise, I can purchase a New-Generic Blower Motor from several places from price ranging of $35-$65.

Any thoughts- about purchasing?

I have worked on several cars in my lifetime, including this car. However, not to this magnitude and a 2005 S40 Volvo seems to be complicated vs. other model years- even finding parts, and even finding this Website for example.

It took me over an hour to find this Forum and about 35-40 minutes just to figure out even how to Register on here and then more time on how to login. Obviously, I’m not very savvy with internet and horrible at typing.

My wife is fantastic though. Loves the internet and shopping!

Anyway, my mechanic didn’t have correct tools to do this job for me, but told me I needed to get the Blower Motor Fan Replaced.

I’m not sure where it is located? So far, I have read online that it’s behind the glovebox? Is this correct? If so, then what?

From there- I’m stuck. I know this won’t be an easy job for me to do and I need very specific and simple instructions as you can.

I’m not a mechanic by any means and may not know certain- COOL “mechanical lingo.” Sorry..

Please feel free to converse with me like I’m a 12yrs old.

Can someone assist me with step-by-step instructions and also tell me if I need any special tools, as well -PLEASE.

I would be extremely grateful for some assistance. My wife is disabled, so I need to take her to several Doctor Appointments.

It’s been a really rough few years for my wife and I.

Thank you,
Shawn

You probably have it replaced already. But if not maybe this will help. I have never done one of those, but it doesnt look that bad. Found a couple things on Youtube about doing this, but not of your exact model. Go on youtube and search for "volvo ac fan motor replacement".

The fan is behind the glove box. Usually, the glovebox has to come out to replace it.

Good luck with it.
