Emissions system service
so when I start my car it rumbles when it idles and it gets worse as I drive then it smooths out. I have a trouble code p0455 and I know it’s for emissions. I also get a faint exhaust scent inside the car. I have 144000 for mileage on a 99 s80 2.8. Is it worth the repair?

Your P0455 code could be anything from a loose or bad gas cap, some rotted hose, to a more expensive part.
The driveability issues could be related or completely unrelated. What is the service history of the car? How long has it been acting this way?
When was the last time you had your spark plugs, air filter, throttle body cleaned, MAF cleaned, or other normal maintenance.
Seriously it could need new spark plugs or a simple sensor. Without more detail it is hard to tell.
It is worth repairing - hard to tell until you find out what exactly is wrong. What is the condition of the car other than the two issues you mention?

Okay that is good to know. What you need to do is check your small rubber hoses. You need to pay attention to those that go to the Evap Purge Valve. Not sure if the 2.9 is the same as the 2.9T for this part, but here is the location for the 2.9T: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=88390
Check all the hoses around it for cracking or disconnection. Follow them their entire length. Your troubles could be all related to this problem.
