Reduced Engine Power indicator light

Hello,

This is my first post and I must say it's nice to find this website and get feed back from fellow Volvo owners.
Here is my saga, My 04 v70 2.5t serpentine belt broke after replacing it I noticed that my REP light came on and the car would not accelerate. I did have a friend check it out and he claims that the A/C compressor need replaced and that is what is causing the REP issue. Is this the problem or ?
Please help a bloke out that doesn't have much money.

Take off the serpentine belt and rotate the A/C compressor pulley. If it is frozen then yes this could be the problem. With the belt off, you can run the car off the battery for a few minutes, charge it up afterwards. If the REP warning disappears you have your answer.

I assume your car is making a rather loud belt related noise??

NOTE and be AWARE: Without the serpentine belt you will not have an alternator, power steering and A/C as these are all powered via this belt. You will also get a battery related warning light.

The AC pulley should freewheel easily with the belt off. Without the alternator turning the battery will go low quickly and give that error.
