Headlight washer/spray fault

Post by BlueRubber »

Car: 2002 v70

On the left hand side of the car the headlight spray doesn’t spray any fluid, the right hand side does.
I cannot see any dripping under the car or around the engine bay to indicate a leak.

Any suggestions on where I should look for the fault?

Neither headlight wipers work, but I think I need to remove the front bumper to fix this so will leave this for warmer weather.

The 2002 is different to our 2006 XC70. It does not have the wipers but just a pressure jet. The system did not work. Had t oremove the bumper to investigate. Found the pump had exploded (like an Alien stomach exit!!). Have to guess someone had left non-winter windshield washer fluid in when it gets cold here (-30C or below in winter). Replaced the pump and all was then good.

If you have the older wiper motor and arms then they have their own issues. Not seen the earlier P2 model version to see how similar they are to the P80 versions. If they are chances are they suffer the same issues of the overload resistor failing internally in the motor housing. While I don't know anyone who has found a supplier of the flat square resistors, most replace them with a piece of copper wire. I would then recommend replacing a fuse option between the motor and the fusebox to prevent blowing anything else if they overload. Reasons for that would be if they freeze in winter.
