Can someone identify this hose or send the proper diagram?

Post by rivera0608 » Wed Feb 20, 2019 7:31 am

Can someone identify the hose circled in red in the attached photo? I recently had it replaced after my car broke down, and the receipt simply says "hose rebuilt, replaced, (temporary)." The mechanic said I would need to get a genuine Volvo part to replace it within the next year. Apparently, this hose starts with one diameter and ends with a different diameter, so they mended two together to make it work in the interim

When I went to the Volvo dealer, they said it was just bulk hose and that they would have done the same thing (i.e. there's no specific Volvo made part that would be tailor made for this).

I'm waiting to hear back from the Firestone mechanic if he can track down a Volvo part number for me, but in the meantime I figured I would post here for some feedback.

Thanks!

Search for my thread on rough cold idle under 1999 V70T5M56 - same model as your 1999 turbo

I detail those hoses which caused poor running with sizes and layout.

Those hoses are the two paths the engine uses to evacuate the purge canister - one from the manifold and one from the snorkel in front of the turbo. There are check valves in each leg. Those are important (and also NLA new)

Going off recall here, but another poster had a similar dilemma. Although Volvo OEM is no longer available (NLA), there are other companies selling the part. Check the site sponsors. The site sponsors usually do a good job vetting their product offerings, especially when they offer a life time warranty. I know some brands in the PCV system fail and fail fast - you want to avoid these.

You can buy the hose at your local parts store and reuse the check valves. We call local stores FLAPS HERE, Often.

See the thread below forsizes on these hoses, there is a white paper picture with hose sizes INC sharpie mid thread

I just did the PVC system on my 99 T5, and one of those hoses was COMPLETELY deteriorated and split. They hide under the intake manifold along with a number of other critical bits. I replaced mine with hose from the local shop rated for contact with fuel and oil.

I also replaced most of the protective plastic wire loom cover since the originals turned to dust when touched.

IMPORTANT: If the PCV system has a banjo connector at the intake manifold you ABSOLUTELY need to make sure the oriface is completely clear. Mine was totally blocked with hardened material that was not easy to clear. I used an appropriately sized skewer I found in a kitchen drawer...
