1987 740 GLE camber off
I’ve got a 1987 Volvo 740 gle with the front driver side tire that has bad negative camber. The tire rubs against the strut. I hydroplaned and the rear of my car slipped into a two foot ditch but I pulled it out before my front tires went in. The front driver side tire didn’t go in the ditch. I have pulled the tire off multiple times to try to find the problem. The strut isn’t bent. The sway bar isn’t bent. I can’t tell if anything else is. What would most likely be bent to cause the rubbing. I am at a loss and any help would be appreciated. Wish that you could just adjust the camber on this model. Thank you.

I would think either the strut , A arm or sub frame is bent unless the wheel bearing or lower ball joint is so bad that you would hear clunks and it would not be drivable. You would not be able to see the bent strut unless you removed it and took the spring off and spun the strut rod. spin the wheel when jacked up to make sure the rim isn't bent. wiggle the wheel to check slop in wheel bearing.

The rim isn’t bent, and there is no slop in the wheel bearing. I saw no visible wrinkles or kinks in the subframe so I don’t think it is bent. Likewise, the control arm looks good. I have yet to take out the strut, but the mount that connects the bottom end of the strut to the brake rotor and caliper looks bent. There is a visible 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap where it shifted of the strut housing. Could this be the cause? Or is it still more likely that the actual strut is bent?

That sounds like you found the cause. strange to bend that direction. maby you went in the air and came down very hard. I would think you would have to go 4 feet in the air . I don't know, but think a unit off a 940 and 960 to '95 early fits your model as well. use your spring. you cant buy it new
