Turbo swap?

Honestly not sure how to preface the many questions I've got but here goes:
I'm currently rebuilding a 2005 v70 t5 motor and valve body in the tranny and I'm yanking the engine outta the car to work on it. I figured while I had it out, I'd do a few minor upgrades as I do love a good sleeper car

My biggest goal was to swap the turbo! I believe it's got the original 15t on it but I wanted to know if there are any easy swaps that I can maybe pull off a junked t5 or R. I don't necessarily want to increase boost(as I don't really want to tune the car just yet) but rather decrease the spooling time so it doesn't have nearly as much lag...

Also I really enjoy blow off valves but from what I understand the bypass valve in the cars already is a recirculating system.. therefore it doesn't vent to atmosphere... Any tips on how to achieve the whoosh ? Lol

The T5 is the high pressure turbo, the lag Is designed to give your second place, first loser competitors a glimmer of hope off the line, soon squashed.

You can run a 16 psi CBV from IPD by replacing the diaphragm only ( a nasty job, make sure the kids are asleep)

You will need a good relationship and $$$ with a tuner to remap your ECM to a new turbo, And ECM on Volvo from 1999- on is linked to the VIN so you can brick it if you screw that up.

Whenever I want to beat lag, I push the anti-lag pedal, and pull the lag selector to position 2 or 3 depending on speed.

No matter what you do, we will all be in second place To Speedy FLorida Mom.

In addition to the above it's actually better to stick a prefab 250hp tune on a 2.5T LPT. With the smaller, faster spooling, turbo it gets almost full boost from the get go.

I don't have any way of tuning my car unless I send it to a shop or to IPD for their stage 0 tune. Which is what I want to do anyway, but the cash isn't exactly free flowing at the moment so I'm trying to wait. I'm trying to increase power mechanically before I screw with my ECM. I just don't have any good resources on learning how to tune from the ECM.

And I've never considered anti lag.. well... Other than to make popcorn noises lol! Is there a quiet version?

And you mentioned a selector switch?

The way these and other modern cars are built you can't really do anything to increase power with hardware. The software will just adjust to it to keep everything the same.

A standard software stage 1 tune around here is something like $400. Cheaper than a lot of hardware anyway.

Ok well.. I guess I better hit the books on ME7 tuning! Haha! I really want to get to the point where I'm mapping all my own data and adjusting it all myself and I just can't figure out where to start!.. also a quick thought.. how practical is it to bore the engine to increase power? It was a quick thought that my ADHD brain just HAD to have an answer to

I really have no "real' idea on this subject, other than stuff I picked up on the Subaru Forums. For the bypass valve, as you mentioned the system is recirculating which basically eliminates a blow off valve add. What the Subaru people seem to do is weld the waste gate flapper shut, and install plumbing for the bypass valve to work independently - hence you have your blow-off valve/sound. From there they also install the components to adjust the boost. You will have to redesign most of the system and hardware, but it appears everything is out there to do it. How this impacts your "tune" is another story. You can be the pioneer.

Take a look at the Subaru Forums for ideas - those people are nuts (in a good way) about maxing HP and turbo tuning.

Generally, smaller turbo equals quicker spool up - but less boost. This all changes when you add/subtract fin count and design.
