Swerve/pull when braking
I have a 2005 XC90 that swerves or pulls to the right when braking. It feels like something is loose and the vehicle swerves to the right and when you release the brake it goes back straight. Any ideas?

You're lower control arm bushings are shot.

We had the same thing on our 2006 XC90. Visually the rubber looked fine. Not a tear in sight....but they were mushy on the left side control arm vertical bush.
I pressed in a new vertical bushing and all is now fine.

Thanks for the replies. I looked at the lower control arm bushings and your right, they don’t look that bad other than a little tearing of the rubber. I’m going to replace them and I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Well, both front lower control arms have been replaced and the problem is still happening. Not sure where to look next.

What brand did you replace them with? there have been numerous accounts of cheap LCAs not performing correctly. For these I would highly recommend just having the bushings replaced with Volvo OE bushings or Myle HD versions (although, those will not last long if you do a lot of mileage).

Well, it looks like the front control arms did fix the problem after all. I got bad feedback from the driver after the repair. I drove the vehicle after and the problem is not happening. Thank you to everyone who responded with help.
