98 v70 glt radiator fan

Post by stephansvolvo » Mon Mar 18, 2019 12:28 am

At what temperature should the cooling fan come on?
I have noticed the last few longish trips that when I sit idle for a period of time the temp needle creeps up.
I changed my oil yesterday and decided to let the engine run with my scanner connected. The engine temp reached 201*f and never kicked on. I turned the car off.
I checked the fuse and it is good. Not so sure about the relay or how to test it.

I sat in traffic at the border once and found my T5 cycle was

Fan 105C
Fan off 87C

The Volvo cooling system is well designed with lots of capacity. On cooler days, the fan won’t come on, perfectly normal.
