What parts should I save

Post by scottcha »

I have a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T that my daughter wrecked. Due to the damage and the air bags deploying it's isn't financially lucrative to repair the car. I bought her a 2005 S60 2.4. My question is, what parts off the 2002 would it be a good idea to hang on to before I haul it off to the salvage yard? Thanks in advance for any answers or advice.

Quick and easy

Throttle body (won't work on your 2005 though)
MAF
Ignition coils
TCV
ECT
MAP and Temp sensors
PEM (on top of fuel tank or in trunk)
ECC control unit
ECU (can't sell them, but they are pretty to look at)
TCM

Harder
Suspension parts
Cat converter - grab it now - saw it off with lots of pipe end
ABS Module
Brake booster Master cylinder vacuum pump/switch
Purge valve
Alternator
Starter
PS pump
AC compressor
Empty Nester

Anything you replaced recently that'll be better than the used parts on the new car.

Any chance this motor and transmission would fit in a 2008 s40?

Great answers above. You can sell the Marelli throttle body for a nice sum if it was recently replaced. May also keep/sell the wheels if it's some nice 17"

A good working 2002 transmission may also sell quite well. You may advertise the whole car, surely can get over $1000 if the engine/transmission where in good condition. If the tires/wheels and suspension are also recent, maybe even $1500

Unlikely to get more than about $500 for a wreck in my neighborhood. Best case for $ return would be keep and part out.

Agree with abscate...

Get the easy parts so you can sell on ebay:

List from "abscate":
MAF
Ignition coils
TCV
ECT
MAP and Temp sensors
PEM (on top of fuel tank or in trunk)
ECC control unit
ECU (can't sell them, but they are pretty to look at)
TCM

I'd add: remove the wheels and sell locally.

Then the body can be sold to junk yard.
