1999 V70 XC (B5254T) Fuel Pressure Regulator

Post by bcfischer » Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:12 am

Greetings!

I have a 1999 V70 XC that is having a starting issue. It is not getting enough pressure to the rail. The fuel pump is new. The relay is new and a jump wire exhibits the same problem. The car starts and runs for several seconds. The immobilizer ring is new. The fuel filter is new. I am down to wanting to check the fuel pressure regulator.

VADIS says that the fuel pressure regulator is in the back of the car on top of the fuel tank. I work on this in my exposed, northern Minnesota driveway and have neither the inclination nor experience to drop the tank. I'm told that getting to the fuel pressure regulator on a 1999 XC is a challenge. I did have to cut an access port in the rear seat area to get to the fuel pump, so I am familiar with that process.

Before cutting stuff, I would like to check for a vacuum issue. After the vacuum (called a 'reference air hose' in VADIS) leaves the fuel pressure regulator, where and how does it go to get to the manifold?

Take care and thanks in advance,

Brian C. Fischer

I believe you have ME7 engine management on your 1999 XC and that does not have a vacuum controlled FPR like the -1998 cars. Pressure is regulated back at the tank rather than up at the engine.

Its a really reliable system so if you are down to the FPR on tank top Im afraid thats got to come off.

I am looking forward to that...!

My neighbors already mock me because I usually have the car either up on jacks or with the hood open or with the seats and carpets strewn across the yard.

Do you know if it is possible to cut an access hatch above the FPR ala the fuel pump workaround on the AWD cars?

Thanks and take care,

Brian

You said that fuel pump relay is new...is it OE or aftermarket?
