What is this little dohickey?

Post by KidsV70 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:09 pm

The below item fell out from under the dash on my foot while I was braking. At the state inspection station, no less. Any idea what it is? I included the key to show scale. In addition to the "pin" machined into the item on the right end, there is an opening machined into the left end as if another pin should fit in it.

The car seems to operate completely fine, but I'm definitely curious! I can't see anything obvious under the dash....

A spring goes in the open end. It is re-locker pin for ignition cylinder.

Search for “locksmith Volvo ignition service” on YouTube. Use the video that is 11:39 length. It shows removal of this pin about half way through.

Glad your part got identified, but just wanted to know you get a one year absolution of all Engineering sins for doing this. Posting unscaled pictures is like having your fuses not all inserted the same way, a capital offense.

The other bonus is that you managed to remove this pin with no effort at all, when it took a seasoned expert 5 or 6 minutes.
