Driver door speaker cutting out intermittently

Post by clarkerussell »

Hey guys,

My driver door speaker on my 1998 S70 is cutting out intermittently. The tweeter is fine, but the woofer cuts out. I have the factory head unit and I added the behind the dash factory amp a few years ago. The wiring on the speaker seems OK.

Does the amp send a separate signal to the tweeter and the woofer, or is the crossover built into the tweeter? Is it possibly an issue with the amp? I can't seem to track this down...

Thanks guys!

If you don't have access to a spare, you could swap the passenger side and drivers side speakers and see if the problem transfers.

If it doesn't then you may have to have the fun of looking at the wiring into the door. I have had random wires break inside the wiring harness just inside the door where the harness disconnects from the door post.

So does the wiring go from the radio/amp to the woofer and then the tweeter, or is it discrete wiring to each from the radio/amp?
If it's a single, does it go to the tweeter first, or the woofer?

My 2 front door speakers were cutting in and out intermittently. Both of them, leading to my confusion. It wasn't the radio or the wiring, it was the 2 front speakers. 20 years was about it for them.

If you have another speaker around, suggest testing with it.
