Remote Entry Keys suddenly don't work at all.

Post by JoeRiver » Sun Mar 24, 2019 12:14 pm

Neither remote entry key does a thing, all of a sudden, on 2004 S40. Suspect electrical problem inside the car, as both
controller batteries wouldn't go kaput at once. First problem seems to be, 'how do I get into car?'

Use the Key Blade.
The metal end of the remote that looks like a hole for a key ring is one end of the Key blade.
Slide the spring loaded catch toward the side and pull the Key Blade out of the remote control.

The Key hole is under the plastic cover at the door handle. Find the hole and pop the plastic cover off with a tiny screwdriver. Don't let the cover go flying off where you cannot find it.

Thank you. I figured out the key and got into car ok. Now it won't start. I had left the light switch in wrong position, due to mis-
undersdtanding the 'daylight running' nature of it. So battery was dead. Tried to get it charged, but it was feeble, so bought a
new battery. Still won't start; just clicks, though all the bells and whistles now work. Buying this car 'used' is stretching my 20th
century grasp on technology. Any additional advice will be greatly appreciated.

The daylight running lights can be turned off in Vida using Vida 2014D and a good chinese DiCE clone. I did so on my 2003 S40.

Did you cleaned the battery cables before you connected them to the new battery?
Did you clean the battery terminals before connecting the cables?
Is the new battery fully charged?
Sometimes, it is something that small.

Thank you all. I'm on it's trail. Suspect I blew a fuse or relay in trying to jump start it.

MAN FIX CAR ! Turns out it was fuse #23, which runs the fuel injection. I had checked them all, but only pulled them out one by one and looked at them from the side, as the book says. This time I checked their continuity with ohm meter, and found that lying no good bugger. Wonders never cease. Thanks again to all. This is a great forum. Hope my experience helps somebody.
