Airbag light s60 2005

Post by Randall0208 » Wed Mar 27, 2019 5:12 pm

Hello there, I’ve had some odd issues with my 2005 Volvo S60 involving airbag lights. One night I was driving and one by one every light in my gauge cluster went out until I was sitting in darkness and had no idea how fast I was going and rpms, engine temp, ect. All the sudden a minute later they all came back. A airbag light came along with it. The mechanic said the airbag light is code u2001 and u2003, he says he’s never seen anything like it before and he’s unable to see where it came from, he can only clear it. It’s stayed away for a couple weeks now then the whole gauge cluster thing happened to my dad and the airbag light is back. Prior to me buying the car it sat for two years due to some repairs being needed and I bought it for cheap and did the repairs. Not sure if some mice got in it while it sat and maybe chewed up some important wires? Anything helps. Thanks

UXXXX is a network error. Most likely caused by the electrical problem corrupting the data. Look for wiring defects.

I am working on a car right now that has a dead gauge cluster. I think you will find out that the air bag light is an anomaly that occurs when the solder joints in the gauge cluster fail. Do a search for here for gauge issues and you will find threads that provide vendors that can make a repair, cluster seems to be easy to remove. If that is the issue, once repaired you may need to have the air bag light reset.

On reconnecting the battery, it is recommended that Volvos have the ignition key in position 2. This provides a load that avoids a surge into the DIM display, or the CEM central electronic module, that frequently results in the air bag light being stuck on.

I have not had this issue, so have not investigated the details related to the air bag light. Here is a note that the SRS software needs to be reloaded, but I had thought I had read that some were able to clear the light with a diagnostic tool. Not sure what tool.

If you have not disconnected the battery, then perhaps there is a wiring issue, or the battery may need replacing.
