refilling AC 96 R

Post by Clemens » Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:30 pm

Hi!
After winter break my AC cycles very frequently and short and when bridging the low pressure switch the compressor stays on - so I guess that my AC needs a recharge.
That is bad because I had it fully evacuated and refilled with 750g (I think it was 750, but it was the correct weight as mentioned here in a post) last June. So I guess my condenser might be on it´s way out. Which is really bad. Because I don´t want to pull the dashboard (yet). Anyhow, a buddy of mine works as a commercial AC mechanic. He said he could simply fill up the system.

Now how do I or he know he is not overfilling it? Because this is probably not really good. Do we have any experience of how much a still working but fast cycling AC will need.
The AC still blows cold, but it cycles on and off every two or three seconds, which it shouldn´t do if you put it on full blast as far as I remember.

Your commercial A/C guy has the gauges and I am sure he knows what the pressure should be. No worries

If the weather is cool out the compressor will cycle to stop freezing

Bite the bullet and get the evaporator done...don’t pump Freon into the air.

Bring it over here and I’ll put it on my schedule.

I think your time management ist way better than mine, Steve! It amazes me how you pack all these things into your life.
I knew I had it coming, but I planned it for 2020. Maybe I´ll do it this year, though. I know freon is really bad for the environment.

Ive found squeezing a couple of hour sounds wrenching while watching Liverpool football keeps SWMBO happy , and breaking up a big job like AC into 4x 2 hour stints means it can get done on a weekend or two at worst.

A good AC tech won’t even need gauges, s/he can feel the low and high pressure hoses for temp delta and get it really close to perfect. I can’t do that, do I usually charge my mass, watching my temperature delta once I haven 90% spec charge in. If I get 45F temp delta, I stop there. ( 2000 rpm, 15 minutes equilibrated, recirc on, blower high)
