2002 s40 alarm- no start

Post by Codynickelson »

I currently don't own the car and an interested in buying one that does have a problem. (See attached photo for the post )

The three fixes I have found is
1.) Replacing battery - loose wire to starter
2.) Bad computer
3.) Moving the black coil on the left side of steering column down a little bit ( can link a website to what I'm talking about)

How often is something like #1 and 3 the problems? Is 500 a good deal for this ?

I would jump on that. For me that car is a low risk bet.

"Not starting because the alarm prevents it" that sounds like the immobilizer been tripped. On the first generation X40 you can reset the immobilizer by lock/unlock the door 5 times in a row with the remote.

Another problem with the first generation X40s is the column locks go bad. If it is just the column lock and you can turn the key to on (Position II) but not start (Position III), I can show you a $10.00 work around to replacing the $160.00 column lock. Install a start button and wire it to the ignition switch.
