Turbo Guru question

Anybody know if the 13G and 15G turbines are interchangeable? I'm looking to keep a stock 13G and install a 15G output turbine for hopefully quick spool and higher boost than stock 13G.. is this even possible?
The car I am building is a 98 V70XC lpt I'd like to run it till it blows then install a beefed up version 2.0

I've never done this, so I can't speak from experience that it'll work. Not all the specs are the same between the two.

Size/measurement chart and info on 13G, 13T, 15G, 16T, 18T, 19T

FCP has good general info here, but nothing specific about your plan.

US market P80 turbochargers:
  • 15G: 94-97 Volvo 850 Turbo, 850 R
  • 13G: 97 Volvo 850 GLT, 98 S/V70 GLT, 98 V70 XC
  • 13T: 99-00 S/V70 GLT, V70 XC, 99-04 C70 LPT
  • 16T: 98-00 S/V70 T5, 98-04 C70 HPT, 98 V70 R
  • 18T: 99 V70 R
  • 19T: 00 V70 R

Spool time has been a traditional problem with turbos.
The downsides of a turbocharger are that it takes a bit for the engine to produce enough exhuast gases to spin the turbo up to a workable level, an irritating pause known as turbo lag.

Recently there's been some solutions like the one above. I'll try to find the manufacturer(s) who are using electric-assist turbos. That's where the spool time is reduced or eliminated with electric power spinning it up.

Yep, I've had to deal with the inconvenience of turbo lag to often. Hence the need to find a quicker turbo spool. I bet I could rig up my A/C compressor pump to a portable tank like the one in this video. Seems cheaper than NOS or methanol injection

Twin turbo has historically been the solution to this problem. Inline TT. One small to spin up quickly, one large to take over and provide healthy psi.

Sounds like you may be mechanically inclined to find a solution. I’ll be following.

For the other 99%, it’s a matter of a) power b) spool time. Pick one.
