Ac compressor seized

Ac compressor seized

When I bought my '94 850, went to turn on a/c, clutch pulled in but compressor wouldn't turn, belt started to burn up, I put in a bypass belt and all is well. I haven't given it much thought because of winter. It is possible to free this compressor up or do you think it is more than likely shot? Car was sitting unused for three years. Just wanted some input, Thanks in advance

Get a new Zexel compressor if you plan to keep the car for a long time.
Brand-new is $380, good used from ebay is $70 (but you need to know the mileage before installation).

Harry’s has AC for 25 bucks
3 hours labor to remove
3 to install
100 for a recharge
New drier. $50
Evap?

Total used cost. $325

If you think you want 5 years from the car, go new. It might be good to vacuum test the system first. Evans go onthesecars, it’s a $100 part but a long weekend to get the dash out to get to it.

wait a minute... are you saying you solved the elusive ac compressor delete belt size and routing with out removing the compressor?

This is settled law for models up to 1998

1999 on the same belt works but the alternator won’t charge as IT free wheels when it direction changes.

Continental Serpentine Belt #4060500 for bypass. At first look didn't think it was going to have enough contact on alternator, but I was wrong. Thanks for info guys. If it needs evap, I'll probably just settle for sunroof.

I might have two EVAPS going on up my way this summer. I have spare cars too, in case we get stuck and need to return. I have all the gear to do AC up here, no need to buy anything but parts

Do you think the way to go is put everything in first (comp.,dryer) pump it down and see if it holds from there, if not move on to evap and cond. coil. Let me know date, thanks very much.

No, do nothing. Bring it up sometime, lets pump it down, test vacuum, and see how it holds. It could still have pressure in it even though compressor is seized which would be a good sign. I also have a bore scope so we can look at evap without yanking dash.

I might have a 1998 style compressor to try in my stash, too? Not sure.
