1999 S70NA Manual Climate Control MCC 3524842 9171601 Cable attachment

Post by abscate »

My passenger temp control was not regulating, reaching around the dash, I could feel the cable had popped off the MCC gudgeon, so I went to work

Unlike an ECC controller, the MCC controller is removed by unscrewing the rear part (the part you see) from the console frame, then unclipping the FRONT part (hidden in dash)

From there, you can manipulate it enough to reattach the cables with some tricks

Unclip the cable from the frame (snap in) so that it is free

The eye on the cable goes on the gudgeon, the wire gets retained by the C clip built into the plastic gudgeon

Put the eye on the shaft, then turn the temp knob hot to use the frame to retain it.

Tools

Torx T15 for screws
SPudger to release plastics frame and clips
Put a shot of silicone spray into top of each wire to make things move smoothly

Elapsed time 25 minutes

*** Be careful with that MCC - its a $450 part and eBay is no help - hard to find in PnP.

Update on the MCC controller $320 at FCP for 1998-2000

Nice writeup. Those cables are a pain to work with, and the MCC unit is a lot more complicated to remove than the ECC. I'm currently removing the MCC unit from the 850. Fortunately this one works, so I'll give someone a good deal on it if they need it!

My recent 1998 parts car has MCC, so I now have a spare controller . Im actually not too inclined to sell given how hard these are to find.

Brought my spare mcc control unit but as I pulled off the knobs and manipulated the plugs the lights flashed.

It turns out pressure on the rear face makes the lights intermittent. We put a spacer between the rear face and the mechanical cable unit and all is wellll

Sounds like some loose solder joints.

Glad you got it working though. No lights on the unit at night is no fun.

Ah, I know what’s going on

The bulbs bayonet the front of the circuit board on the MCC unit. The electrical connection is inside , on the rear of that board.

Slight Pressure on the bulb holders will disconnect the connections in the board and ,,,,, lights out
