2001 V70XC - Front Seat Replacement Topic is solved

The front seats of our 2001 V70XC are my favorite for their size and firmness. I've driven 5-7 hours straight with great comfort on V70XC, unfortunately same is not true for 2013 XC90 seats. 1997 850 cloth seats are close 2nd, and aging nicely.

So, I found a nice set matching the color code. VIDA discusses 1st generation, and 2nd generation seats. What generation is 2001?

Heavy to flip over, but a closer look at the electrical connectors is needed, hear are few pix. Is orange airbag line?

2001 is a 2001-2003 seat. In 2004, Volvo updated entirely the seat frames, floor bolting, electrical connectors and perhaps also the SRS electronic modules under the seat. Note that the seat cushion will look the same from 2001-2009 (2007 for the V70 and XC70), but the cushion attaches completely different to the seat frame. The two seat models are not interchangeable in any way. The large electric connection at the front of the seat is also entirely different.

VIDA says to ground wires to discharge airbag circuit. Would removing (-) negative battery terminal sufficient before disconnecting seat's power supply connecters?

Is VIDA procedure for -tilting simplifies removal of each seat from the vehicle -- handling bulkiness?

It's much easier to remove the seat when it's folded - using the two rear tabs on cars from 01-03. The seat is very heavy and barely passes by the door opening even folded - plus the rails will surely scratch/damage something in the process

Lifting seat is back breaking.
Would it help if I remove the center console AND/OR place something like ice skate blade guard around the rail to prevent interior trim damage?

Definitely can wrap something around the 4 rail corners. Can't really lift the seat, just push it on the side (fully folded with the two rear tabs on 01-03), then try to roll slowly out of the car watching the cables on the floor, plastic trims, etc. Belt gets detached with the big bolt. Oh, I think I also had to remove the head rest

You might have the Showellwood tab (tm) on the seat belt that lets you disconnect belt from seat without tools.

Here is a progress pix for front passenger. The only way, I found, is to tilt and flip it over on to the back seat, and then maneuver it out of the rear door.
