Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
Ahh, I see. The "Volvo Driver Distraction Display" is funny!....and true...
But if it does these things (many of which should be on gauges in the first place) that's good....
Boost
Coolant temperature
ATF temperature
Battery voltage
Fuel rail pressure
Short-term fuel trim (STFT)
Throttle plate angle
VVT angles, intake and exhaust
Ignition timing (BTDC)
Misfire counter

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
The sad reality for me is that with what I know about electricity (the lights go on when the switch gets flipped up) and programming (that's how you find out what's on TV), the only way this would be doable for me would be as a prepackaged kit with detailed, step-by-step instructions.

Steve -- we ought to put a couple of these together for our respective rides.

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
There are any number of kits and factory built displays that work on the OBD2 port. I didn't realize at first that this device reads the Volvo codes like a mini VIDA/DICE unit. This is way coolE Showell wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 3:15 amThe sad reality for me is that with what I know about electricity (the lights go on when the switch gets flipped up) and programming (that's how you find out what's on TV), the only way this would be doable for me would be as a prepackaged kit with detailed, step-by-step instructions.

I love experiments and have some IT and electronics skills, so I think I will have fun with this

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
Replaced my old 2.4" Picaso display with a bigger/newer one (gen4 Diablo 2.8"):

The one I bought about 5 months ago developed a crack in the flat display cable, it is a FUBAR
Had to buy another one.
Also my other project: third-party navigation in Volvo RTI:

Not so long ago I had a Garmin nuvi 65LMT installed there, but its battery went dead, the unit was not able to power up. I accidentally had cut the ribbon cable while carving it out of the frame, effectively destroying the unit
Oh well, didn't like that Garmin anyway, and it did not work in Canada, though I paid for the maps... Here LG Stylo 3 goes.
Now I have a GPS navigation of my choice (Copilot) and so much desired topographic maps for my wilderness trips (Garmin Earthmate paired to the DeLorne/Garmin inReach Explorer+).

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
Okay, folks. I got it working finally. Pardon my laziness: I work as a sw developer and doing more sw development in the second shift is much less relaxing than turning wrenches under old Volvo, which falls apart
So it took longer than anticipated.
Same git repo, the esp32 branch: https://github.com/vtl/volvo-ddd/tree/esp32 I got it all working with ESP32 NodeMCU32-S ($11 on Amazon), 2 or 4 CAN-bus shields w/ MCP2515 and a bunch of other stuff mentioned somewhere in the beginning of the topic.
MCP2515 is less advanced than built-in CAN-controller in Arduino Due (SAM3X8, ARM-based), I yet have to rework sensors polling, as it's slower than I want it to be, but it's solvable. Schemes will be drawn soon.
I thought it is good to bump up the topic, since 4D Systems has 35% discount these holidays (promo code 4D35).

Schematics: https://easyeda.com/v.mayatskih/volvo-ddd. Work in progress, does not have CAN-shields for the rear seat entertainment, may contain bugs.

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
What is that adaptor for the Kenwood HUD in the picture above?
The car audio shops here in Australia insist there isn't double DIN adaptor for any Volvo.

SCOSCHE VO4152B 2005-07 Volvo S60/S70 Double DIN Install Dash Kit. It is not a perfect fit, but I'm OK with it.
They also have one for 01-04.

Re: Arduino Volvo Display Thread
Hi,
Suggestion: instead of this overpriced 4D sys Display, the ESP32 could act as an Webserver to host all the data on a webpage, so one could just use its smartphone as Display.
