Where to get the CD changer cable for the SC-816 (in an S70)?

Post by wrybread » Thu May 02, 2019 1:27 pm

I'm trying to trick my head unit into thinking there's a CD changer attached, using the method described here:

https://gizmosnack.blogspot.com/2015/11 ... o.html?m=1

But that's for the HU-XXX head units, which have a full sized 8-pin DIN. My SC-816 has a mini DIN, as in this pic:

I'm looking for a cable to strip, but oddly I can't find one. Does anyone know if this is some special Volvo cable? Or is it somewhat standard for CD changers to use?

And any idea where to get the cable?

And since it has the same number of pins (8) as the HU-XXX, I'm hoping it's just a different pin layout but same protocol. Here's the pin layout for the HU-XXX, I don't imagine anyone knows the pin layout for the SC-XXX?

Or maybe there's an adapter to go from full-sized 8-pin DIN to this mini DIN?

Thanks for any help.

HU-xxx HU’s were made by Mitsubishi for Volvo.
The SC series of HU’s were all supplied by Alpine.

You can find factory installed cables for the Alpine
made systems in many P80 cars, just waiting for
changer upgrades, especially the wagons.

IIRC, retail Alpine cables will also work, but
the actual Alpine branded changers will not
operate the the HU’s that they put other
peoples names on. Legal thing...

A look at the DIN connector selections at DigiKey and
Mousser Electronics may also put you on the right track.

Thanks @BeJinFbk, I'll have a look.

And aha, I *think* the pinout is in this post:

However looking closer it's not complete, since it should have these 3 melbus lines:

- melbus clock
- melbus data
- melbus busy

(And sometimes people call the 12v power line "melbus run").

So hmm.

I have a connector from one end of this VOLVO factory cable with 3-4" of cable. Yours for the cost of postage.
