Wheels / tires

Post by xtwister » Fri May 03, 2019 7:13 pm

I have a 2001 v70 t5 project/beater car that I got. (not daily)

It came with stock wheels and winters 215/55r16. It had the winters on when I got it.
after looking at the stock wheels, they tires are old and cracked... so I'm ditching them.

I had a 850 that i got rid of, that had 17" pegs that will need new tires.. currently have 225/45r17 from 2006 and 2010

What is the best size to put on pegs on a v70? I'm thinking 235/45r17 ? Will there be wheel rubbing on the wheel wells?

Attached pic of car but it doesnt really show the current wheel gap.. its around 4" in the rear.

The 225/45/17 will rub at tight turns - already these cars don't turn that tight. Also be quite hash if the streets have cracks, even more so if the struts are the original ones.

thanks for the replies.. I've been googling also.. I did find an link for ipdausa saying pegs and 2001 v70 can take 235
I know when i had the pegs on an 850 lowered it rubbed on full lock but thats a different beast

https://www.ipdusa.com/techtips/10010/w ... lvo-models

" The 1999-2006 S80, 2001-2007 S60 and 2001-2007 V70 can accept up to a 235 section width tire, common upgrades include 235-45-17", 235-40-18" and 235-35-19"

This is confusing

A 235 wide is going to be fun taking turns.. May also try for more answers a UK forum, they are quite used to 17" wheels (and problems) https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=19

My V70 2.5t with (optional) factory 17” Orpheus wheels calls for 235/45R17 on the door jamb sticker. I bought the car used in 2015, and yes - the tires rubbed. BUT, the steering rack stops were about non-existent, and once I replaced those, no rubbing whatsoever. So the 235 width should be fine for you, so long as the stops aren’t worn down.

2006 V70 2.5T, Ice White/Taupe-Light Taupe, bought “newsed” @ 183,500 miles in Dec 2015; 225,000+ miles as of May 12, 2019!
