98 V70R issues

Post by mutant » Sun May 05, 2019 10:11 am

I have a 98 V70R the car had sat for a while, it ran flawless then all of a sudden one day I started it and it just started running so rough missing etc Then it just would not start I think it was fuel pump but my Mother had a stroke and I had to take care of her so the car sat. I moved and had the car transported, not sure what the idots did that transported it but now I have to push down on the overdrive button to get the shifter to move into gear so not sure what caused that or what I can do too remedy that any ideas?

I think the fuel pump is bad, I have looked and seen there is Vastly a different procedure to change fuel pumps between a regular v70 and the R Can anyone who has done one tell me what is really needed to change the pump and any shortcuts and anything else I should do since the car has been sitting for a few years before I put it back on the road Thanks and any ideas on the tranny issue would be appreciated

Is the battery charged, or are you just pushing it to move it?
The shifter interlock is electrical, so there has to be power available.

As for how it’s running, have you checked for codes?
The car will usually tell you what it’s upset about.
I’d start there before jumping to any conclusions.

no on the battery so I will put a fresh one in, but the fuel pump is not coming on and I already tried replacing the relay to no avail

There is a electrical/mechanical solenoid that unlocks the shifter when you push down on the brake. It is down kind of deep in the front part of the shifter assembly.

If you can hear the solenoid trying when you push down on the brake, it probably went sticky from non-use. A shot of lubricant might get it working again.
