Post by Joshlee » Mon May 06, 2019 4:55 pm

I can't find the fuel pump relay on my 2005 xc90, it won't start and I've replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter both. Can someone please help

No relay.
The XC90 uses the PEM.

It is either in the RR wheel arch (behind the liner) or inside the car.

If you think you need a PEM, try junk yard or ebay (used is about $40-$50).

Did a thread on this last year- https://forums.swedespeed.com/showthrea ... M-Location, couple places these live before permanent relocation inside the car.

The forum search tool has a couple other entries relating to PEM. One example- https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forum ... 10&t=87719

As far as testing, it's a PWM signal from the ECM to the PEM and then to the pump (on demand) with 12V coming from the CEM, can see a schematic in the photo link in the first post. I would first look really closely at the PEM connector interface and see if anything is obvious, much of what is written on failure is due to outright corrosion.

Quite a few options for replacement, if you buy used after 2007, you're pretty much assured that the unit has never been outside the car.

Good luck

Can buy a used one off Ebay for like $60 - look for one without corrosion on the metal plate. No programming. If you have an FPS may also get a replacement one
