Re: No Oil Pressure - Stop Engine

Hi all,

I took three pictures to show you what I noticed.
It looks like there is an oil leakage coming from the throttle body as it is all wet.
What do you think? Could this be someway related the oil pressure issue?

Also, there is no way I can reach that oil pressure sensor connector to disconnect it, I cannot get my arm in, too tight.
As you can see the connector itself is rusty and removing it is unlikely in that position.

I could remove the oil sump and, at that point, I should be able to remove the connector too.

Another question I have, I do I remove the dipstick pipe?
I can see their is a small bolt that can be easily remove, then do I have to pull from the top (I assume it is stuck) or is it better to remove the oil sump with the pipe in it and then remove it once everything is on my workshop bench?

Thank you,
Alex

I removed the dipstick tube on mine, before I dropped the oil pan. My oil pickup o-ring was crooked and causing my problems. Depending how long yours sounded like a diesel...…..it might be kaput.

Let's see today, I will remove the oil sump and see if I find any metal in it.

Anybody has got an opinion on the throttle body and the oil leakage?

Thank you,
Alex

Hi all,

I drained the oil and see what I found out when I was disposing it...

Image

Now, this car only drove 5000 miles from June 2018, of which only half of them are on a long trip in December, the rest it is all short distance, like 10 miles/day and... we have very cold winters here.
Now, it is also true that last year I did roughly the same mileage, but I never saw that sludge before.
The car has 160000 miles.

Until few days ago the car was perfect, how is this possible I did not get any sign that something was wrong before?

What is the connection with the low oil pressure, leaking throttle body and the sludge?

Thank you,
Alex

That’s just water and oil mayonnaise from cold running.

With your new oil, give the car a hot run to help get the water out. You might find your oil pressure is back up.

That will do it. Water condenses out of the air in the crankcase. With the short runs, the engine does not get hot enough, long enough to evaporate the water.

Water being denser than oil will sink to the bottom of the sump where the pickup tube is.

Hi all,

OK, I managed to remove the oil sum.

Apart the mayonnaise  I cannot see metal traces.

The two black o-rings are no longer 'O', I think I broke the dipstick one while removing it, it would have been impossible to remove it from top, so I pulled down the oil sump with the pipe, then one foot on the oil sump and two hands to pull out the pipe, it was extremely hard to move.
The cooler rings seem to be fine.

My questions to you at this point:
  • How do I clean the oil sump? Fill it in with a de-greaser and leave it all night in?
  • Should I also change the oil cooler-to-filter o-rings? So in total 7 o-rings?
  • Should I change the oil sensor to be 100% sure it is working?
  • How can I get to the inlet mesh and clean it?
Thank you!
Alex

Any degreaser will get that out, just running the car hot will do as well

Replace every oring you can.

Abscate,

Thank you for your comment.
Any thoughts on my other questions?

Any quality anaerobic should do, I see no reasons why Permatex won't work

How is the oil passage from the PCV box, I think is this one, it should be cleaned nicely. See on the corresponding hole on the block side too. It is perhaps good time to also replace the PCV (maybe once the pan is back, a quick 'glove' test, shown on Youtube)

May test by hand for any play in the rod bearings

I'm not sure but there may also be a bypass valve at the oil filter housing area on the oil pan, may take a look

The inlet mesh, can you undo the whole pipe? I would just try a water hose on the other end, gently.
