2005 XC90 T6 Executive Project Car.

Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo XC90s. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America).

You sure they are not listed in VIDA? Have you tried another model?

I have always reused them - did not know they were single use. Torque is not that high for the size of the bolt and they are not AL.

Install (Per VIDA)
1. The rubber sleeve on the underside of the oil pump
2. The vibration damper. Use new screws. Tighten and angle tighten. (Stage 1........35 Nm, Stage 2........50°.)
3. Use the crankshaft centre nut as a counterhold
4. The plastic nuts for the cover in the right-hand wing liner
4. The right front wheel.

On all my other Volvos I could change the Timing Belt without pulling the damper. I don't see anyway around it on this late 2.9L.
One would think the Timing Belt Kits would include the bolts.

If the orginal battery was NiCad the charger would overcharge the NiMH. Yea they can make chargers that can detect the battery technology and adjust the charging profile but, I doubt Volvo would of spent the extra money it takes to do that.

Everything I seen indicates they have always been NiMH but have not seen anything that make it conclusive. I would hedge my bet on they have always been NiMH. Europe has been pushing for a cadmium ban for at least two decades.

Ah Heck! It is a matter of guessing the correct term to find something.
In the repair section it is Vibration Damper.
In the parts section it is Oscillation Damper.

Flange screw M10x35, Full thread, Grade 10.9, VPN: 985383, . FCP has them for $2.70 each.
I might be able to source some locally. It not like it use to be when the hardware store carried a complete selection and you paid by the pound.

TBD: Pitch and Head.

I have done the TB on two 2.9 engines - one NA and one Turbo. Both times I reused the bolts and so far no issues. 10.9 is a pretty hefty - M10 is 55 ft/lbs or 75NM (generic chart). Both times I had to take off the damper - not a big deal (other than whether to replace the bolts). It also makes finding the timing marks easier.

When I get lost with Volvo language - I will find the part number of an easy part (for you the Damper) and do a search in VIDA with this official Volvo part number - has worked every time. The parts diagram pops up and I find the specific part. One can also do this on the web with Volvo dealer sites - one just has to be careful the correct year and model is listed. (For those without VIDA).

NiMH - they leak.

Did the timing belt, discovered the nipple problem. Came up with the same solution songzunhuang did four years ago except I found a way to get the aluminum nipple to seal on both ends.

Glad I got the Timing belt done, the old one has quite a bit of slack in it and the timing was a little off. Runs real good now.

Changed the strut mounts, no more clanking coming from under the car. Truck rides and handles much better now.
