Engine stop after acceleration

Post by marcus » Sat May 18, 2019 2:39 pm

Hello,

I started my volvo after major repair. After handling many problem I went to the point were the engine is runing smooth but is shot down after I press the acc pedal.

I check the errors and there is : Mass air flow sensor upper limit.

Is the engine shooting down because of the malfunctioning mass air flow? Very propabable.

But now how to find the problem with it? Can air leackage make the problem? The error is after reassembly. I did not have problem with it before.

What I can check on the car and and in vida?

Error suggests the MAF sensor is reporting maximum air. System considers this to be an error.

- Is there too much air - unlikely at the MAF - would require the turbo to be running hard, which is not normal at start up?
- Is there a problem with the MAF sensor - dirty, or failed?
- Or a problem with the wiring from the MAF?

Try disconnecting the MAF sensor electrical connection and retry the start - what happens?

Vida upper limit description:
-the intake manifold (MAP) pressure sensor displays more than the mass air flow (MAF) sensor

Where it is the MAP sensor?
I have S60 2002, 2.4 non turbo.

For the location of the MAP sensor see attached image (02 V70 NA). You can check the MAP in VIDA. Look for atmospheric pressure when engine is off and expected changes when throttle changes.

But it seems likely that you introduced the probIem during repair. I suggest to check wiring and also hoses of everything you moved. The hose to the MAP sensor was quite brittle on mine and needed replacement. Sensors seem to fail very rarely though from what I read.

I did check the MAP sensor and I fund it was disconected from the manifold. So it read the atmospheric pressure. After reconecting it is good.
Interesting is that vida was indicating the MAF sensor.

Good to hear you solved the issue. What caused the computer to raise the error was a discrepancy between MAF and MAP...
