Climate control xc90

Post by thomasjrsharp78 » Sat May 18, 2019 3:39 pm

So I have searched and not found anyone with my exact problem.

'07 XC90 Sometimes when I start the car, the A/C system does not work at all. The lights work, but it doesn't blow no matter what I do, twist fan knob (which is glitchy when it does work), put in auto, change the directional control, try every temp setting try defrost, beat on it, nothing....then the next time I get it, it may work perfectly fine (except for the glitchy fan speed), or it may be the same.

I also have an airbag light on/service required immediately light, which I'm sure has nothing to do with it, but really....who knows.

Best to get the car read with something that interprets Volvo specific module codes, then check the CCM codes and see what the climate control module thinks is wrong. The SRS indicator may be a real issue or it may have simply been that someone unplugged a module under power and honked things up, you'll see what it is when the car gets read. Same device to read the car should allow for code resets, that'll be needed to get rid of the SRS light regardless (it won't clear on it's own).

In the meantime, a few question please-
Fan works but no cool air comes out or is it an airflow issue where no air comes out?
It sometimes works but sometimes does not? Specific scenarios or examples?
Both sides of the car have the issue, it's not directed to one side or the other?

You need to get the car read and the SRS light cleared regardless but if you can provide additional detail as to the scenario you experieince while you're sorting this out, someone could try to assist with some areas to check.

it's not an unplugged and gone wonky issue, I have had the vehicle for 2 years, and everything aside from and alignment has been done by me, and I haven't messed with anything in a long time.

when this happens, the fan doesn't work at all, nothing even attempts to come out, both sides. Dead as a doornail. now that I think about it, I have not tried the rear air when this happens.

as far as scenarios, it seems to be completely random.

Excellent, it's a fan control problem, now you have a module area to deal with. Path is CCM to fan controller to fan. Getting the car read might assist further in troubleshooting, but were it me I might start taking some stuff apart and seeing if it's something simple. Fan controller if needed is PN 8693262, fan blower if needed is PN 31320393.

Forum member cn90 has a good procedure for pulling the fan.

I'll try taking apart and seeing what I see. I'm trying to avoid the dealership b/c I can't stand them since they charged me $300 for an oilchange and a 150 point inspection, in which they told me I needed to change the cabin air filter.....which I changed literally the day before.
