Help with dashboard removal, 1999 S70

Post by 800artfreed »

Hi Everyone
I need some help with the dashboard removal. This is a 1999 S70-glt. I have removed EVERYTHING necessary to get the dash out of the car. Seems as if there is an additional screw or bolt over the glove box area that is holding it in place. I have the dash pad removed. I have the 4 long bolts out from the firewall. The passenger airbag is removed. The two screws at the bottom of the "tails" of the dash near the door frames, left and right are out. Both kick panels are out. Radio, A/C-Heater control is out of the console. Hand brake/gear shift console is out. Two lower screws at the foot of the main dash console are out. Of course the steering wheel, airbag, 2 stalk switches are out. The driver's side is lose, as it is suppose to be, but not the passenger side. When pull on the dash it just feels like there is something holding it. It does move a little bit from the windshield but not like the driver's side. Is there some additional fastener behind the glove box / air bag area? Thanks.

Where does it feel like it's hanging up? High up in the dash area or lower.
You said ""over the glove box area" but I wanted clarification on that.

The dash pad is out. I know there are 3-4 10 mm bolts you have to take off under the glove box area but I think those have to come out for the dash pad to come out so it can't be those.

In a fit of frustration I just pulled harder and the dash broke free. All of the tabs to the firewall are cracked and in multiple pieces. The top trim piece near the windshield/alarm light has running cracks as well. I will try the ABS cement and put some together but am leaning towards going to the PnP and grab another 1999 dashboard. Of course it could be as bad or worse but the existing one is very noisy with noticeable looseness between the windshield and dash trim.
Thanks.

I am debating whether or not to tackle this job right now on my '95. If I had a second car I think I'd do it. But I'm having difficulty justifying two days of down time so that the smacking dash sound is less annoying. Incidently I found a piece of a dash mount on the floor yesterday. Not really a confidence building sign.

In case you haven't seen my write up on my dash repair, here it is:

It's worked for me and my dash is still quite after a year.

Check this out. Helped me out a lot when I removed the old VDO Dayton GPS system.

Probably a good video most of them from IPD are, but that's just the dash pad. Pulling the dash pad is the first about 8% of the dashboard removal process.
