Hi everyone, just had a seized caliper on Weds. Picked up a caliper from an Autozone on Hempstead Turnpike. And was able to install, replace, and bleed caliper in under two hours. (Still can't find all my tools with this 2-year Eurovan job still taking place.) A little silicone goes a long way...

Here''s the kicker, I had been thinking to relube my slide pins and bleed my brakes but, of course, I kept putting it off... I also did an oil change and shipped off an oil sample to Blackstone. Hope everyone is having a great, restful weekend!

I still haven’t posted pictures of my disks from the last brake job because there’s are women and children present. These were the ones with good brake action but bad smell after full application.

that car must have sat for years. Rust is very tough. I thought the pads would wear it off on a vehicle that sat, and they never did.

WOW! How did those pads look? Those were on the T5?

Pads had about 4mm of meat left but had started to wear plateau shaped inboard.

This car never sat. Last replaced 4 years 95,000 miles ago

I have a seized caliper, planning to replace it soon.

Should I change the other rear caliper as well ? They are a bit rusted and have 195k miles on them. I'll get all 4 new discs and new lines (braided maybe)

Noticed rear rotors on the AWD are grooving a bit. Can hear rear rotor dragging on the T5, but that may just be from sitting. Should probably do rear brake refreshes on both, but knowing me I'll just put it off until the next long weekend.

Only replace sister caliper if you are buying new genuine Volvo calipers. Aftermarket rebuilds are all junk. If buying rebuilts, wait until your original caliper seizes before replacing it. You should also flush and replace your brake fluid with DOT4 if you have no idea how old it is. A 1 liter bottle should be enough.

Agreed. My cousin had a Duralast/AutoZone rebuilt caliper on his V70, it lasted two months before it started leaking and he almost lost his brakes. Fortunately they had another in stock for warranty replacement, but ideally you won't NEED to replace it under warranty since it should last a lot longer than two months!

Even rebuild calipers from known brands (such as Bosch or TRW) ? They are still slightly cheaper than Ate/Genuine Volvo.
I might just changed the seized one then.

Brake fluid has been replaced a few months ago because it was one of the reasons the car didn't pass inspection
