ATF plug location?

Post by Mr. Detail » Tue Jun 04, 2019 8:50 am

Try not to give me too much grief here but when I was crawling under the car to change my oil over the weekend I was trying to locate the ATF plug or pan. My next task is to do a drain and fill on the ATF but I am not exactly sure of the plug location. Is it over on the driver's side? (2002 V70 - Base)

Hey Mr D...MDK here. Yes it's on the driver's side. Where the engine and transmission mount together it's right there. The nut runs vertical and it's 24mm... but I used a 15/16 th's because ... well because I did

Fill in fresh ATF through the dipstick, don't touch any large bolts on top of the transmission. What looks like a filling port bolt is in fact an anchor for the third gear brake band. Aisin even had to replace that hex bolt with a penta bolt, because so many car mechanics screwed it up.

I wrote a detail DIY for all fluids for my 2005 XC90 2.5T below. The ATF drain plug is shown in Step #3:

PS: Get a long funnel as shown in the DIY.

Thanks much guys! Being a newbie at this I didn't want to screw it up on my first try.

Good call VTL... Hey Mr D. See the bolt behind the transmission mount? That's it. PS... when I post a photo I don't know why they end upside down. Can one of the moderators please flip them for me? Thanks. MDK

Does anyone even look at the DIY link I posted above?

Yes, I looked at it. It is for a 2005 model XC90 Turbo.
I am just thinking here that some of that video may not apply to my 2002 V70 Non-turbo.
