A whole list of problems

Post by Shiruba » Thu Jun 20, 2019 11:14 am

Hello all, I am new to posting on this forum but not new to using some of the great fixes. I absolutely love my car but lately it has been a nightmare to use.
It pretty much refuses to start lately it will crank and crank with intermittent firing then when attempting when I spray some MAF cleaner into the intake it'll start then die, if I do it two or three times it'll start and run. Sometimes roughly, sometimes smoothly. Sometimes it'll drive okay but get horrible gas mileage, other times it will barely drive struggling to get up to speed refusing to get over 1500 rpms or jerking to get above sometimes dying.
It is a 2000 v70 xc with the 2.4 turbo just over 200000 miles I don't know what might have to do with what so I am going to list all that appear after a code clear I've only had it a few months it pulls the following codes:
Ecm 9400 permanent
Ecm 280a permanent
Ecm 262a permanent
Ecm 261a permanent
Ecm 260a permanent
Ecm 6800 intermittent
Dim 0001 intermittent
Dim 0004 intermittent
Dim 000a intermittent

It also had these codes prior to a code clearing but I haven't driven it much since then so some of these could come back:

I really appreciate any help this is my first Volvo and I am in love with the car and would just about anything to get it running right again. I am already trying to figure out all the vacuum hoses so I can replace them. It was recently timed and has a fairly recent (like in the last 5 years) fuel pump and MAF and a brand new fuel filter.

Also, not sure if related but, after I clear the codes on this car, it has a nightmare of a time starting. It did that before these problems but would run fine after I got it to start, is that normal?

Sounds like a possible fuel issue - all your P codes indicate a fuelling issue (except P0243) and are likely all related. The fact that it will start when you add a fuel source (cleaner) confirms this, as does your horrible fuel economy. If you're decent with a wrench get yourself a fuel pressure gauge and check what kind of pressure you have at the rail after the pump primes but before you attempt to start it, then when you are cranking but it won't start. Report back with what you find. Results will likely point to a faulty pump, pump relay or pressure regulator.

Alright thank you for the reply, I will check when I get the car home. Also, thank you for the notice abscate. I typed that from a phone, I will restructure my post. I also need to include additional codes.

There are a few possible issues:

As suggested look at the fuel pressure. These later models of P80 need higher fuel pressure IIRC it is around 60psi.

Also to check:

1) Cam sensor
2) crank sensor
3) Coolant temp sensor and it's connector

As you are blessed with the ETM it could also be an issue, but check the basics first.
