sunroof and alarm siren

Post by xtwister » Sat Jun 22, 2019 9:14 pm

My sunroof rarely works have the issue of water collecting because of drain being partially clogged.
Whenever i want to clear the drain plugs the sunroof wont open.
I read it was because of the alarm module in the passenger well had batteries.

I do not have any warning on the dim but I know the siren doesn't work and I do have error in Vida saying faulty siren.

If I pull the alarm module while i replace the batteries, can i still drive the car and have the door locks and everything still work?
Also when i fix the module, can i cut wire to the siren itself because I don't want the alarm to sound. I do know that they can dealer delete the module but do not want to pay the programming fee.

Also the previous own gave me a metal bar saying it fell out from sunroof. I also found one that was abit longer but similar under the rear seats when i changed the shocks. For the life of me I cant figure out where they go. The sunroof itself seems flimsy so I suspect some type of support bars. I attached a pic of them.

On my former 2003 v70, I had the exact same problem regarding sunroof intermittently wouldn't open/close due to alarm. I removed the connector to the siren. I put the connector in a plastic bag and taped it up best that I could in case I ever decided to repair it. Sunroof always worked great after that.

So...I fixed the siren /sunroof by day ..moonroof by night problem on mine. Oragex gave me a link on eBay for the battery and I fixed it because I like things fixed.. right? I think I paid 17$ all the way around for the battery but did the work myself..I used a hacksaw and glued the unit back together.

As mentioned, unplugging the alarm siren should have everything else work properly + a dash message and triangle light for 10-15 sec after firing up. Here's a trick when replacing the alarm - a little unconventional but can save some time www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt1kp5HPgWc

i went to remove the siren module to replace the battery but the security bolt was in there good. I gave up
for now and left the alarm module unplugged.
Unfortunately everything was working exactly the same whether the arlarm module was plugged in or not.
Vida had the same error messages uem-0004 and 0005 which are siren and sunroof communications.
Maybe its the UEM instead (rear view mirror) ?

The reason that the alarm is 'usually' the culprit is because the battery routinely goes bad and sometimes leaks acid over electronics. After that, the interface to the computer ends up looking like a short. The computer can't drive the other unit (sunroof) because the computer can't drive a shorted circuit. So, gvien that you disconnected alarm, either sunroof electronics are bad, wiring is bad or the computer is bad.
