Combining Volvo Factory Dual Antennas to Single Antenna for Aftermarket Stereo Head Units

To use BOTH factory Volvo diversity antennas with an aftermarket stereo head unit with only one standard Motorola-type antenna input, you can buy these two items from Amazon (or equivalent pieces from elsewhere):

The first item is a Y-adapter with two female inputs and a single male output that plugs into your aftermarket head unit. You plug the large factory antenna into one of the female inputs. You plug the second (smaller) factory antenna into the GM antenna adapter and then plug the other end of the adapter into the second female input of the Y-adapter. Plug the male end of the Y-adapter into your aftermarket radio.

What effect this has on antenna impedance matching or anything else will be up to some ham radio operator or graduate engineer to figure out. All I can say is that I now have antenna input from BOTH back window antennas on my 1998 V70 instead of just one. Reception for FM seems excellent. The head unit I installed does not have an AM receiver.
