Fuel line connector v70 awd 99

Hi
So basically i changed my fuel pump assembly and that part went well. Now i've run into a snag. The metal fuel line connector, that connects to the fuel pump, doesnt want to attach. I've tried rotating the pump, different angles and such but no luck.
As i understand it, it has to go on just right.
Does anyone have experience fitting the connector?!

They should just snap into place. Can you take a picture of the problem hose and connector as it may help me and others to help you get this figured out when we can see what you are trying to do.

There you go. The connector is an 5/16".
Right now the connector is held by the 4 clips.

That doesn't look like the right fitting to me. The original should have a plastic ring that protrudes further down the metal nipple on pump cap. The one pictured looks like a fitting for a line/nipple with a flange. The 4 spring "fingers" go past the flange and to release you slide a cuff down the line and it pushes the fingers towards outside so they clear flange for removal. If that type fitting was used on that pump cap you would not be able to get the release tool in place to ever remove it. the one shown will not latch where it can't be pulled off as the nipple on that pump has no flange (maybe calling it a lock ridge gives a better description).

The other tip off is those hose clamps are not appropriate for fuel injection applications. they will loosen over time, and being buried under the back seat and metal, won't be inspectable easily

replace with one use, oetiker or at least banded fuel injection clamps with Loctite applied.

Ok. But the one on the right is original? That one didnt have 4 metal clips securing it. So the two connectors are wrong? The older one is on.
Do you have a link to the correct fitting? I can't find anything.

Abscate, you should've seen what the previous owner did. Where those hose clamps are, there's a plastic tubing that connects between pump and filter.
