Hi all, this has been baffling me for a few weeks and no amount of muscling parts around seems to be resolving it. I'm in the midst of dropping a 2002 motor into my 1999 V70 T5 and the engine refuses to sit correctly in the bay. It sits cocked at a slight angle (clockwise as viewed from above), and it seems separately to be shifted to the right by 3/4 inch or so. This doesn't sound like much but it's enough to make it impossible to install engine mounts without forcing them. I was able to force the mount behind the front right wheel into place but it ended up tearing the rubber and ruining the mount. The trans mount under the car is also stretching quite a lot to get the bolts installed, so I'm not going to force that. (The top mount attaches just fine.) The two mounts that take the engine's weight look and feel perfectly healthy and are bolted into the correct holes on the subframe and steering rack.

Has anyone else run into an engine not sitting right in the bay? Are there differences between the 99 and 02 motors that I need to account for here?

Check all the mounting points for the engine are exactly in the same place. You may find the mounts are physically different including where they sit on the block.

There was a crank pulley mount change around 98/99 years which are not interchangable. Remember you are trying to fit a P2 motor into a P80 so there may be subtle differences. Lower torque mounts are also different for AWD and FWD in P80's.

I'm looking for what those subtle differences might be. All the mounting brackets from my old motor bolted straight onto the new one so I'm not sure where there would be a mismatch. Unfortunately the old motor is gone so I can't compare them in person.

Per the page linked below it seems like all you'd need to do in that corner of the motor (see item 1E on his list) to swap an RN motor to an 850 is install the old-style bracket. This suggests that the mounting points on the block are in the same spot, and since I was able to swap the mount from my old 99 motor onto the 02 motor, I'd expect the engine to drop into place just fine. So something else is up but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

I think I would focus on the front engine mount ( passenger side of car)

I have a part in my stock and can send measurements if that will help

I know there are two parts on this with about 1-2 cm difference between them

I actually have both parts, lol. The discrepancy between them is in the front/rear axis: one of them has the mounting holes farther forward on the subframe, but in the same position laterally. Not sure what the intended applications of the two separate mounts are, or why I ordered a replacement for the one I have but got the other.
