Black 1995 850 T-5R

Post by davidh99 »

I have a black 1995 T-5R with 175000 miles. Second owner, documented California car, bought in 2013 with 133000 miles. Not chipped, new Pilot Super Sport tires, needs driver seat belt, center engine mount, knock sensor. Runs good, original leather upholstery like new. Original 17" wheels. Koni adjustable shocks in front, Bilstein touring in rear. Approximately $20,000 in maintenance/replacement parts since 2013. Any thoughts on how much I should ask for this car?

$2,500

Edit:
I should have added "and cross your fingers". I just don't think the car will bring in much.

This opinion is based on the fact that I couldn't find a taker for my 258,000 mile '95 854T two years ago.
One family owned. Good shape, but needed wear items replaced (exhaust, bushings, shocks etc.).

Got as low as $400 with no action.
Said the hell with it and decided to keep it for use as a back-up vehicle.

Thanks for the information. I will likely donate the car, but it was fun to drive here in LA in the canyons, and on mountain roads.

Okay I hate to even suggest this but you should check out the Volvo buy sell trade on Facebook. You can find it in the MVS Facebook page. They list cars a little high there but it's a place where people are actually looking for specifically what you have. May be able to get a higher dollar.

I wouldnt suggest donating it you'll get a $500 donation receipt that you can't even use unless you have itemized taxes.

What were you thinking you'd want to get out of it? Also pics would help. :-)

I'd prefer to see a t5r go to a home as opposed to a junk yard. Heck I might be a bidder on a few months myself.

I think you’re 2500-3000 is obtainable in LA. You’ve got a decent market for enthusiasts there.

Though donating a vehicle is a great thought, do NOT donate such a special car like a T-5R! It'll just end up in a pick and pull lot, which would be a real shame for Volvo enthusiasts. Too many old Volvos are disappearing for this reason.
On top of donating, unfortunately California makes it too easy for people to junk their car for too much money just to get them off the road and "save the planet." It's a scummy thing to do to car enthusiasts... not everyone is getting rid of a beater Ford Tempo. It's happened to a lot of red block Volvos... I die a little inside every time I see that. Meanwhile here I am looking for a manual 740 turbo wagon for years with no luck, because sellers are happier crushing them than selling them for cheap to an enthusiast.

Sorry.. rant over hahaha.

In all honesty, you could probably ask something like $3,500 and take offers from there. Someone will want it. It seems you can ask whatever you want in California though... just look at that episode of Wheeler Dealers where Mike paid something like $7k for that 855 T-5R that needed a ton of work... then played it off like he got an amazing deal. CA has the market... no clue who in their right mind would pay that for a P80 that needs $2k in work, but there's a sucker born every day. I blame collectors and Youtube.
