Hello Volvo community! I own a 2008 S80; I have prolonged some needed maintenance on the vehicle because of a move across country. As of late, my driver's side door lock will not remain locked either while driving or while the car is parked and electronically locked: often this results in the car alarm sounding off. This problem has resulted in the battery failing and weakening beyond the point of no return. So, I have some questions.
1) Pertaining to the door lock, what may be the problem? (Any suggestions about parts, video tutorials on how to repair, etc would be greatly appreciated.)
2) Are after market batteries suitable for my Volvo's electrical needs, or do I need to stick with Volvo batteries? (The only battery I have looked into is the Super Start line. Are these decent batteries?)
Thank you in advance for any advice you may be able to offer.

If it works with the key then it's the little motor inside the locking mechanism. Last month I removed the locking mechanism on my 03 S80 T6 and rebuilt the small motor inside with the help of a Youtube video. So far so good.
Here is the door panel.
I tried 08 S80 and 3.2 & V8 and all shows parts without keyless entry system? Hope it helps a little.

I did exactly this after cutting open the door lock mechanism. I wasn't paying attention and opened the mechanism assemby itself and everything flew everywhere. Took me awhile to figure out how the mechanism function. The part is not cheap.

Just saw Robert's video. His video is clearer in terms seeing the inside of the motor. I used the copper wire from a 14 awg Romex while he is using a clipped copper washer.

I really appreciate your response, MoVolvos, on this topic. I will review each video with a keen eye.MoVolvos wrote: 10 Jul 2019, 10:29 -

Also, I forgot to mention in the initial post that this also triggers the driver's side door ajar signal in the dash. I just wanted to make a note of that here and see if there is any additional concerns I need to be aware of.

Good providence in getting that solved. While you are in there check wiring and other electrical just in case something got unplugged or loose.
I was frustrated with my son for not cleaning the underneath of the seats (to my standard
) so decided to double check all the others. Part of the passenger seat did not function when purchased and I was dreading the potential electrical and/or mechanical issues. Long story short, found a wire dangling but not low enough to be obvious.
Another head ache gone!

Is the ajar signal on all the time? Try one more thing. Have the window down and close the door. If the ajar signal is on try locking the car with the key from the outside and see if the ajar signal goes away.Volvidge wrote: 10 Jul 2019, 10:58 Also, I forgot to mention in the initial post that this also triggers the driver's side door ajar signal in the dash. The lock could be stuck in the unlock position and/or the door striker does not communicate with the alarm module that it is closed. Hope it is not an alarm module issue. I don't have the ability to troubleshoot from a diagram so you may have to try the mechanical first. Perhaps someone else will have some suggestions?

Yes, the ajar signal, for the driver's side door, is on all the time, either when I am driving or not.Is the ajar signal on all the time? Try one more thing. Have the window down and close the door. If the ajar signal is on try locking the car with the key from the outside and see if the ajar signal goes away.
Once I am able, I will try the recommendations you've suggested here. I too hope it is not an alarm module situation.
