Cargo 12v power port

Post by Garaba » Wed Jul 17, 2019 5:59 am

So I recently just purchased a Volvo 2007 XC. While I love this car I was looking around the documentation for it and I noticed references to a 12v port in the cargo area. So my question is, does anyone know how to add this port. I saw whispers of a kit on the internet. But I am having trouble finding information otherwise.

So does anyone know what parts I need and how to install it.

THANK YOU.

While I can do that, the kit gives me a little more protections. Its an always on connection, and the on-board computer will warn you if you leave it drawing power.

I found this for the 2008 https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/Volvo__ ... 35603.html

I just don't know if it will actually work in an 07 as well, or if there is an 07 version.

That's for the next generation so it won't work.

I've added one myself using the free fuse for the rear electronic add-on box, that's really called something else for real. It doesn't have low voltage protection so I'm only using it when driving (which is what I'd do anyway) but the fuse there is rated to 30A so it should be fine in other respects. I'm using one of those little sockets that steals power from the fuses pins, with space for both the original fuse and a new one for the stolen power.

I've retrofitted the original 12V socket, sourced from the junkyard. The connector was already present behind the panel. To do this, you need to remove the panel, drill a whole for the socket, install, connect and reassemble.
The socket is powered via a shunt (RSH3) in the REM, so you need to add that too. The socket is always powered.

Caveat: Mine is MY02, best check the wiring diagram for your 07.

So I;

Order/find the power port for the 2007.
Locate the wire from the REM.
Drill a hole to where about I want it.
Install, the power port.
add fuse to REM.
Pray I don't let the magic smoke out.
Enjoy the Volvo branded cooler I stole from my father.

Anyone have a pic of where one needs to plug this in or a walkthru? I grabbed a spare from the junkyard as well and would like to get this installed.

Yea that's what I want too. I am scared to death of somehow screwing up the REM. It would cost more to fix then I paid for the damn car.

I would just run it from the battery, which Volvo moved to the back just for that purpose, in 2002.
