What LED headlights do people use in their Volvo

Post by Garaba » Thu Jul 25, 2019 11:42 am

I recently acquired a 2007 XC AWD and it came with LED headlights.

However they suck or are damaged because they Low Beam warning comes up. I went looking for replacement options, but was inundated with options.

So I come to you folks for suggestions, what LED headlight kits do you use.

That's normal with these. They (LEDS) draw such little amperage when running the car sees this as no power is being consumed, thus the message for a failed bulb in the message center. We have LEDS in our 06 & they are excellent. I don't recall the brand, they are anodized red & have a cooling fan, maybe $40 on Amazon. The message that you have a beam out becomes less and less annoying. Most companies/sellers will comp you a set of resistors if you complain about the car giving you erroneous messages about failed bulbs. Listen further though.

The cool thing about leaving them alone (Not installing inline resistors) is that when you click on your highs, your lows ALSO remain on. All you have to do to clear the failed beam message is hit the "Read" button on the end of the turn signal stalk.

Can't speak for a Volvo, but I've installed Hikari LED's on my daughters
Mazda 6 about 18 mos. ago and are still working well. They are very bright. Whatever brand you choose get the CAN BUS resistors with them. Some come with them built in others are just an inline connector you add. Good Luck

Low beams aren't going to work when it comes to beam pattern. It seems to be very hard to actually reproduce a halogen bulb well. Highs aren't checked by the car so you can put anything in there.

Way too many Brands. You just have set a budget and find a seller on eBay or Amazon that has good ratings and read the 1 Stars. I always read the 1 Stars to see if there is a pattern of defects and if the customer service was responsive or poor. So far I've purchase cheap ones that had good rating and only 1 set have lasted about 2 years.

So far only 1 set has been dim enough that no one has flashed their headlight from time to time. LED beam pattern just scatters. Don't have them on the Volvos yet but the 03 Odyssey is easy on LED's whereas the 03 Lexus eats a set about once a year. Could be that I run my headlights all the time.

Will update after installing these on the 2003 S80 T6.

NOTE:
eBay: Has some fail products but eBay has never failed to step in to resolve a problem.
Amazon: So far have not been taken advantage of.

Headlights are always on here aswell. it's mandatory plus I prefer not dying myself.

But I have OE HIDs luckily. 70' km since last change so it'll be time again before winter

Weren't the Swedes that started the daytime running light thing and later caught on and into law here in North America? I too have the HID's on the 08 C30 but I turn the light switch to parking lights during the day so the HID is off.

The T10 bulb in the high beam location is replaced with a high wattage LED so it's bright and sharper during the day and in the evening.

Been the law since the 70s I think.

I've got a can-extender around that will switch to fog lights during day for me if I bother to plug it in and repair the fog light that's broken.

I vaguely remember when it fully became mandatory on all cars built in the U.S. I just remember the NHTSA slowly requiring manufacturers to faze in the change.

What is a "can-extender" and how is that wired into the fog lights. It would be brighter for sure to run those as the DRL.

A little data box that hijacks the can network signals and adds to them in different ways.
