It's much easier to run LED's. No housing replacement. cheaper to start with and maintain.

It's worth looking at theretrofitsource.com
I can't help you with conversion as my 2010 XC70 is already HID, but I purchased 2 replacement ballasts and a pair of low beams from them. They have lots of kits, and a good number of informational and instructional videos on YouTube.
