2005 S60 Side mirror

Post by 537playing » Sun Jul 28, 2019 4:29 pm

My passenger side mirror is very shaky at highway speeds. It is just the actual mirror that shakes and not the entire casing. If I take off the shell of the mirror would I find a screw or two that needs to be tightened?

Hey bub... You might have wacked it against the side of the garage, maybe someone did. it has a 4 prong clips that clip the mirror into the housing. If you can get the same style and color as the original from the scrapyard ... I've had to do that before. Under the inside triangle trim piece are 3 screws, then loosen the door panel to unplug mirror controls ..

The glue can fail and the mirror just drops off its backing plate. Happened with my wife's 2007 S80. I got an aftermarket replacement, but the optical quality isn't great. It has a bit of a fisheye lens effect.

I'd get a junkyard OEM replacement if I were you.

The glue on my 04 S60 side mirror had made the mirror glass shaky a few years ago - I put some super glue behind it without removing the actual glass (was able to pull just the right side back without completely removing the left). Worked for a while, but the glass is shaky again on the right side. I bought JB Weld Kwikweld 2 part epoxy and plan to pull the glass off, clean debris, and stick it on properly.

Edit: Decided to take care of this today. I was very surprised how easily the mirror glass came off the backing. If it's shakey, my suggestion would be to take care of it ASAP so you don't have to buy a replacement piece of glass.

I had a similar problem. The issue was the white tabs behind the glass where missing. Pre MY05 I think they had a metal spring, later models had white tabs things.

Jump to the 18s mark to see the spring. FCP had a video about removing the side mirror and in that video you see the white tab things.
