Need advice on where to start...

Need advice on where to start...

So... I currently have a 99 s70 with 310,000 miles I use as my daily drive to... Which I have changed out control arms, heater core... Etc. So semi familiar with working on them

So a buddy mother had a 2000 s70 turbo (with 150,000) that, what she describes, as driving up hill... She heard something and lost power (possibly turbo problem). She parked it in front of her house for months and let it sit... She got a new vehicle and didn't want this one...(freebie) So I jumped on the opportunity... And towed it up to my house.

I jumped it... And it didn't want to turn over at first... But after a few tries it started... Very rough idle... But it started...!!!

So now to start fixing it up here is what I plan on doing... And please... If you have and ideas and thoughts... Let me know

Change oil...
Coolant flush and refill... (fix any leaks)
Change out fuel injectors... (old gas can cause them to clog up... And got some refurbished ones...
New ignition coils... Again..
Might not need them... But got a good deal on them


I would like to drain the gas tank... And change fuel filter...

After I get it to ideal properly... Then dive into the turbo issue....


Thoguths on things I should do or missing?

New to you car recovery....oh boy, that’s fun!

1 forget about bad gas, it takes years to go bad, no need for injectors and fuel filter yet.

2 pull th edipstick and look at oil, if it’s not milky, get the engine oil hot and then drain and refresh....


But


Before you pour oil in, do a compression test to see if the engine is in good shape,

It’s possible the sound was a turbo induction hose getting loose. Car will run terrible like that. The turbos in these cars don’t require service unless you mess with them, then they break,

+1 for Checking the turbo hoses.
You may be a 7mm nutdriver away
from a running car!

Thanks guys! Ill be doing those things for sure... Checked the hoses and one was a little loose (I could work it off if I tried). So after I get it idling... I'll take for a spin and see???

Whatever you do just change the oil first if really needed and figure out the problem(s) first before heading down the road to Stage O. May find out the problem is not worth fixing though perhaps remote.

+1 on the intercooler pipes. they can rip or just come loose.

also, if it happened going uphill, it could be a bad exhaust valve. But this should throw a code, I believe

Dragging brakes (stuck pistons or failed/separated parking brake shoes) are also a possibility.

Being a 2000 it could be a failing ETM. Although not foolproof, worth checking if it has been changed. Look for a yellow sticker on it.
