Good morning everyone. Starting my experience with volvo with an XC90 3.2 2009. I bought the car not working, and from the beginning thought it would be the fuel pump. And it really was. We installed the new pump, and the car started perfectly. But I put only 20 liters of fuel to start the car. It worked for 30 minutes and I turned off the car. I started again, but it didn't start, so I put another 20 liters and it did normally. I saw that the tank is divided into two parts.
Do you need to fill one side first, that is, fill the tank for the rooster to pass to the other side? did I make a mistake or is that so? because looking at the tank picture it has two compartments ... does anyone know anything about this?

Re: fuel pump replaced and new doubt/question in XC90 2009
There have been indeed a few problems with fuel not passing from one side of the tank to the other side. Not sure if you have two pumps or just a long hose going to the other side, perhaps try asking on S60 forums, with some luck you will find someone who already had this issue (and while there also try other forums like http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/forumdisp ... 70-(V70XC) and https://forums.swedespeed.com/forumdisp ... 2001-2010) because this issue is not very common

In the BMW, this is known as "siphon pump" (Venturi effect) failure.
Idk about Volvo transfer pump, still learning...

Don't get stuck on the specific symptom this user had, see- viewtopic.php?f=10&t=83957 for a more detailed description of the fuel delivery system.
This is a pump replacement tutorial, the tank and pump layout with the XC90 is the same over the range- https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-xc9 ... ial-70880/
No idea all that you did, for 100% sure it's important that the secondary hose be routed properly on other side of the tank (see mention of tying a string to make things easier).
Good luck
edit 080419- tank and pump layouts are the same, individual pump PNs will be different depending on chassis (last 6 of VIN) and tank size.

Re: fuel pump replaced and new doubt/question in XC90 2009
QUESTION? I have a 2009 3.2l XC70 with a fuel pump issue. Is this process about the same for the two cars?
I have searched UTUBE and there are videos on changing out the XC90 but not the xc70
Dropping the fuel tank sounds absolutely daunting but considering my financial situation I have to take this on myself
Any articles/videos you have found on DIY would be very helpful. Thank you so much Tad

How much diagnosis has been done to be sure it is the pump and not fuel pressure sensor or PEM instead of the pump?
You will need to drop the tank to do the change on P3 models.
