I noticed my XC90 (2007) rear door window switch backlight does not work on both rear doors.

But then I started to think that are they even backlit...
Can any other XC90 owner confirm if rear door windows switches are with backlight or not?

Not sure on your car, but I have taken apart a few Volvo switches and on some of them they have a bulb in them. I suppose you can pop it off and open the switch to see if it has an internal bulb. Other option is to pull the wiring diagram or try and find the replacement part (bulb) listing. Then it is possible that it is trim level dependent. One other query is to see if it is main light switch related.

It's solved! When window lift switch lock is active (like I had) then window switch backlight is not on. Quite clever design!
