Starting my '97 850

When I turn the key, it’s like the battery is dead, but I’m pretty sure it is the solenoid that allows the car to start when the brake is pushed. Battery is fine. The shifter will not move and the button on the handle will sometimes not “squeeze.” So far if I hit the brake and fiddle with the shifter, it will start. But today, I had to use the release button next to the shifter and put it in neutral. So, is the solenoid in the shifter console? Can it be bypassed? If not, tough to replace?

I would say that p'n'p switch needs to be cleaned.
EU spec cars don't have shift release button besides shift handle...so i can't give you advice about that.
